Pytanie #1:

.243 winchester at 750 yards?

Is this round accurate, I'v got a remington 700 sps varmint in .223, and the most that I can shoot real accurate is a 400 yard, will a savage edge in .243 be able to get ma good accuracy out to 750 yards? And how much recoil do they have compared to the .223, because recoil really messes me up.

Pytanie #2:

Can a .243 humanely kill a deer?

I'd like to go deer hunting but I don't have a deer rifle. I don't want to spend a lot of money on one and I have seen .243s on sale for 400 and less. Is it powerful enough to kill a deer humanely? I also saw a .270 winchester on sale for around $500. Which gun should i choose for deer hunting?

Pytanie #4:

Value of Remington 700 in 338 Winchester magnum?

I ran across a used model 700 in 338 winchester magnum for sale. The rifle is around 90-95% condition. Has been fired 10 times according to seller. It has the stainless barrel and black synthetic stock. He wants me to make an offer. Any idea what this gun is worth?

He also has a Colt army revolver chambered for 32-20 in 80% condition with pearl grips. He wants 400 for it, good deal? Thanks.

Pytanie #6:

Is this A legal way to keep a gun in my car in Los Angeles (No Gun Permits Here)?

My Dad and I got caught on the wrong side of town during the Rodney King Riots in Los Angeles.

These Riots were so bad that they didn't bother calling out the National Guard. They called out the Marines and the Army. They had M-1 Abrams Tanks driving by and Bradley Armored Vechicles. Things were so bad they had F-15 Eagles and Apache Attack helicopters flying over to the remind the tens of thousands of gang members (18th Street Gang for example, alone has over 10,000 members) that the Federal Government still existed.

"By the time the riots ended, 54 lives were lost, 2,383 people injured (228 critical), 12,111 arrested, 7,001 fires set, 1,400 structures destroyed, 3,100 businesses looted, and an estimated material damage of $1 billion.[8] Over 15,000 military and federal officers with 2,000 military Humvees, 20 M1A1 Abrams tanks, 5 AH-64 Apache helicopters, and the visual presence of F-15 fighters complimented the combined police presence of 16,000 officers."

So I think, it's a good idea to keep some food, water, spare clothes, blankets and a gun in my car.

The way I do this, is I buy a hunting license every year, and then buy a Pig Tag. Wild Pig/Boar is open year round in California. So I keep a Winchester .30-30, in the trunk, and a box of .30-30 shells in the glove box. So if a cop stops me I just tell him I am a hunter, and I am going Boar Hunting this weekend.

AND Los Angeles County and the City of Los Angeles only gives out guns permits to billionaires or close friends of the Chief, the Sheriff, or the Mayor.

Is this a good idea?

Pytanie #7:

Will a .44-40 quickly kill a deer?

I like guns, but my finances are stretched. I have thus been collecting guns by buying relatively unpopular guns, sold by people devastated by California's financial nosedive ($20 Billion in the Hole.)

For example, my latest Acquisition was an Astra 400 for $150 dollars. The guy was broke and desperate and the caliber was .38 ACP/9mm Largo.

Well, I have another sort of deal like that, but in .44-40, a caliber sort of hard to buy in stores. I assume I will only be able to buy it over the internet, like 9mm Largo.

This carpenter for Los Angeles City Schools is being RIF'ed and is selling everything and moving to Texas. He is willing to sell me this Brazilian made copy (Puma) of a Winchester Model 92 lever action Carbine in .44-40. I like it. I am a very small man. And this is really small and light. Even lighter than a Winchester Model 94 .30-30. Also, the gun is so short, I can actually fit it into a large nylon gym bag/duffel bag, I have with a strap. I could walk down the road with it, and no one would know what it was. A real bonus in a national park where 99% of the people are commuters between Palmdale and Los Angeles who freak and call the police at the sight of a firearem.

I have no natural hunting skills. In fact, the way I hunt is by advice from a guy who works for the Forest Service. Right behind Los Angeles is this enormous National Forest (Angeles National Forest) with 10,000 foot peaks, and bear, deer, and Nelson Bighorn Sheep. No one hunts there. I know a ranger, and every year, he tells me a likely spot, usually downwind, and above a water hole. Most of my shots are between 60 and 80 yards.

Will a .44-40 kill a deer humanely between 60 and 80 yards?
Meat

Let me guess. You don't actually take the time to read the entire question, correct?

Pytanie #8:

What shotgun should i get?

for christmas i got a 150 dollar Cabelas gift card. i also have about 250 dollars. so for around 400 dollars what shotgun should i get? i want a pump or semi auto that has easy to find accessories like barrels and stuff. i want it for shooting crows and squirrels and other small game. Ive been looking at a mossberg 500, a Remington 870 and a Winchester black shadow. other suggestions for semi autos or other pumps would be nice!

Pytanie #9:

Question for precision marksmen?

I am trying to choose between a Rock River Arms Varmint A4 with a Hogue grip and a 24" stainless steel barrel and a Springfield National Match M1A with a glass bedded 22" stainless steel match barrel. I would be using the rifle i choose for target shooting up to 400 yards and for country shooting with my wife. I would like to hear your pros and cons about each rifle, serious shooters only. No bagging on the .223, and please give actual facts. to clarify, the Springfield is a .308 winchester, not a .223 remington.

Pytanie #10:

I have a savage 30-06 with winchester super x bullets i was wondering how far this can accurately shoot?

I would also really appreciate it if you could point me in the direction of a good scope that would let me shoot out to about 400 yards i dont need a my max price range on the scope is 300'ish
thanks everyone in advance

Pytanie #11:

Good morning guys. A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to buy a Winchester model 94AE, chambered in ...?

....357 mag, from an individual at a gun show. Got a really good deal on btw...paid a little over $400, unfired, in the box ;) Since then I've put a box of 38 specials thru it. I really like it but the trigger is a little heavy. Any one familiar with lightening it up? Or, on lever action rifles is that something that a gunsmith needs to do?

Oh....btw, it's was made in the New Haven plant. ;)

Pytanie #12:

.45 acp reloadable brass?

I just got 400 brass once fired cases from a range and was wondering if is any good. it is labeled "speer". I also got 100 of federal and 100 of winchester.. as well as 50 cci and 100 PMC.

WHAT ARE THE QUALITY OF THESE CASES

Pytanie #14:

I'm looking to buy a Hunting Rifle, $300-$400.?

I'm looking to buy a hunting rifle. I wanted to spend around 300 or 400 dollars. This will be my first rifle. I know quite a lot about gun history and different calibers, and makes. Looking for maybe a .270 or .30-06, or 300 Winchester Magnum. What would be a good place to start i.e. Big 5, gun shops. What would be a good brand to go with for 300-400? Looking for a used rifle. Would prefer to have a scope. Is 300 to 400 a reasonable price or am I dreaming to assume I could get a quality used rifle for such a low price? Definitely want to go with Bolt-Action. Will be enrolling in fire arms safety course, how do I find one and how expensive are they to sign up for?

Looking for a good .17, any ideas?

I'm looking for a good quality .17 bolt action rifle for less than $400 that can shoot acurately out to 250 yards.
Does the Winchester model 5 come in .17
or a Rem. 700 in a .17 (like a VTR or something)
Any Ideas?
Thanks Alot!

Pytanie #17:

Should I get a Tasco 3-9x50mm scope? (re-post)?

I 'm re-posting this because I need to include more details.
I'm hunting at 150-400 yards.
The scope I'm talking about is a Tasco 30/30 reticle PH3950D Pronghorn scope
I'm shooting with a .270 Winchester
My reason for this question is if I should keep the scope on my 111 Savage. Since some of you guys mentioned the Simmons scope in this and the last post, the Savage comes with a Variable package Simmons 3-9x40mm scope. Should I just keep it then? But remeber how far I will be shooting.
Hey, didn't one of you guys mention a Bushnell Troghy, isn't that a pistol scope.

Pytanie #18:

Sorry.What model .270 should I get?
Should wiegh 6-7lb. $300-$400.Should come with a scope and sling.Where can I find the model?

Pytanie #19:

Which is the better tactical rifle for the novice shooter?

I want to buy a "tactical" rifle for long range target shooting. I am on a budget, and I have limited my choices to 1)Winchester Model 70 Stealth II 2) Savage 12VF 3) Remington Model 700 VSF. What is generally considered to be the best out of the box rifle of the three.

Also, what is a good scope in the $200 - $400 range? I was thinking of the Nikon scope with the BDC reticle.

Pytanie #20:

New life for all those 270's?

Formerly King o' the Hill for near-30-06 performance at less recoil, the 270 has lately been put in the back of the gun cabinet amid murmurs of "still tears up the deer too much". Well, a lot of us are good reloaders who can fix that. The 130 grain Nosler Partition bullet can be loaded to 2700 fps for 1000 ft-lb delivered energy at 400 yards, plenty for the biggest deer with good shot placement centering the lungs, a large target. The Nosler Partition bullet will easily punch through the biggest legbone with that much remaining energy.

Hornady says either 43.4 grains of IMR-4064 (known for consistent accuracy at varying temperatures), or 49.0 grains of IMR-4350 (traditional) will do this using the Winchester WLR primer. Both generate 2/3 the felt recoil of full 3100 fps loads, and don't make a mess of the deer. We can supply our friends with these loads, with cartridge overall length of 3.180", for use in all standard guns. Additionally, with the standard full power 150 grain loads, the 270 can handle the largest moose with good hits, all of which taken together makes the 270 a true "do everything" rifle, short of dangerous game.

How do you feel about all this? Thoughts please.
Yes! Canadian Whitetails are huge, as are many Mule deer, both deserving the big loads when using a 270. I must confess a fondness for using the 1895 Model Marlin 45-70 when hunting any such areas where Brown bear or other dangerous game are found a lot, and that mentally edited out my specifying the big 270 loads for all the Northern variety of deer species. Sorry 'bout that. Minnesota/ UP Michigan also has the big Whitetails, and I have kin in Michigan with a "resident address" I can operate out of, now that you've got me thinking that way today! Regards, Larry.
Well, even with centering the lungs after waiting for a broadside presentation, both to minimize 'steak loss', the semi-magnum powder room of the 30-06 case is just more explosive energy in full loads than is justified on regular deer from a meat hunter's point of view. Yes, the trophy of a lifetime presented from the rear, makes many glad they had a 180 grain 30-06 moose load to (1) collect the trophy and (2) make orphans grimace at the taste of bile and gut juice in the donated venison. The 150 grain 270 load suffices as a substitute for that, with nearly the same impressive destruction. Frankly, on regular deer I usually either handgun hunt or use a 243/ 100 grain Nosler Partition as the premier venison tool on management bucks, which are usually modest sized. I want the "best of breed" to breed.
Randy, despite your claimed credentials, most of what you say simply doesn't track as fact or truth. If you were an actual hunter and not just a loremonger, you would know that well-lung-hit animals seldom get 100 yards. The insistence that a heart hit is the only good hit is common among people who haven't tried for that fairly small target under actual field conditions, or they would know that good shooters can't reliably hit it in the real world, and it is popular lore among non-hunters who mostly talk about hunting rather than do it. Your insistence that downloads aren't safe, well, again that tells me that you aren't experienced at reloading, and only subscribe to popular lore around the gunshop of other talkers. Cartridge overall length specs are tied to SAMMI specs, and are safe in all standard manufactured firearms. Finally, your insistence that because some people are screwups that everyone is, even conservative people would call that a departure from reason. Happy hunting.
It has been pointed out to me that an exception exists for 30-06 shooters who use a very strongly constructed 180 grain "moose-capable" bullet to limit expansion on inappropriately small game for 30-06 use, like most deer. Such bullets can fail to expand on a lung hit, leaving a tiny hole through the lungs, and the beast staggering for miles. Political use of the semi-magnum 30-06 on mere deer, can be pulled off safely, by downloading it to more balanced specs for the game, at considerably less recoil to aid shooter accuracy! Handloading 47.0 grains of IMR-4064 with any regular 150 grain bullet gets about 2650 fps, delivering 1150 ft-lbs of energy at 300 yards, with cartridge overall length of 3.230", and a Federal 210 primer. I prefer the Nosler Partition bullets for their easy expansion and bone-smashing penetration. Randy might say weigh every single powder charge, and in that I agree.

Which shotgun is best? Remington 870, Winchester Speed Pump Black Shadow, or Mossberg 500 all-purpose?

I will be hunting mostly turkey and deer. Maybe some duck and pheasant. I will be getting a 12 gauge unless you would suggest otherwise. If you have any other suggestions for a gun in the 300-400 dollar price range, please tell me. Thanks

whats the most i could get out of this gun (please read)?

i'm in desperate need of money, i'm 18, and my friend needs $200 to stay out of jail..long story..
alright, i have a Winchester model 140 (same as 1400, but w/o the checkered stock) semi auto 3 shot autoloader..vent rib barrel, and interchangable choke tubes...only has 1 knick on the stock, hardly noticable..other that that, it's a beautiful gun..
there was only 1500 of them ever made..and i have one of them..
i bought it for 175 bucks from a mexican who could'nt even speak english..(basically a steal).. but the guy i'm selling it to told one of my friends it's worth 400, which i dont think it is... he thinks i'm only selling it for 200..... but the word got around that he sayed that. so i'm going to try to get the most i can out of it...
my question is..what's the most i can get out of this gun, without overpricing it TOO much, so it does'nt look like an unrealistic price...
thanks for your help.
i apprechiate it
yea, i heard there was only 1500 of the 140 ranger models like i got made..all the other ones are 1400's
but i'm no expert. lol

Would a .270 weatherby topped by a barska 3-9x40 scope using winchester superx be good for deer hunting?

I know the .270 is an excelent round for deer hunting but was wondering if it was an accurate round out to 400 meters and the rifle is my main concern
i am also a good shot out to 500 if i hold corectly and know the balistics of my bullet i can keep it in a pquarter at 100-150 yards

How much larger is the Winchester Magnum .300 VS's the 7.62 NATO round??

From article..
"But there is also a lower-profile effort going on in the 25th Infantry Division to upgrade the venerable M24 sniper rifle from a 7.62mm NATO round to the more powerful .300 Winchester Magnum, a change that would give snipers the ability to hit an enemy out to 1,200 meters."

Why does this Winchester round increase the affective distance by about 400 meters?

And if this new round is this much better then why wasn't it used from day one? Is it new?

Pytanie #29:

Can you recommend a good rimfire rifle for 200-400 range?

I own a CZ 550 Varmint in .308 winchester for target shooting. But ammo costs too much to shoot on a regular basis. I need a second rifle that I can shoot a lot w/o worrying about the price. So I decided to get a rimfire rifle, .22LR, WMR, or .17 HMR. I've never owned a rimfire and haven't done much research on them. Can anyone suggest a good rimfire around 200-400 range? Preferably close to 300. The CZ's are over 400, too expensive for rimfire for me.

There is the winchester wildcat varmint. Then there are like a million savages, and remingtons (model 5 looks nice). Just too many choices, someone narrow this down for me, don't like having too many options. Oh and I prefer something with a heavy barrel, and a heavier/bigger rifle overall. Bolt action with wood stock is also much preferred!

General comments on .22 wmr vs .17 hmr?

And finally, can I get away with shooting these in a 25 yard long basement so I don't have to go to the range all the time?

Thanks a lot for input!!
By 200-400 I mean dollars, not yards

Oh, and Philip H, all of these were passed in 2006, under REPUBLICAN leadership. Thanks for playing, though...
And Brutally Honest, yes I vote, and I vote for candidates who know what they Constitutional rights and responsibilities are:

"lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts, and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States." Art. I, 8, cl. 1.

Items like these do NOT fit those criteria. They are state issues, not federal ones.
John H: love your analysis of the Bill of Rights. If I lived in NC, I might just vote for you (that is high praise coming from me)

Don't agree on the Teapot Museum, though.

has anyone fired the smith and wesson 500 magnum with the 4 inch barrel?

okay i am in the mood to get this gun but i havent fired one yet..fired plenty of short barrel 44 magnums and always loved em..let me know the quality. Are they offering recessed chambers for the 500..called chamfering I think. how good is that new winchester load the all nickle one..its 400 grains I think. give me your opinion on this hog leg!
yes i contacted smith and wesson and talked them about a custom 5 inch barrel. chamfering the chambers and putting a really nice touch on which would be a smooth cylinder on it..nice hugh...going to try some one handed shots out of it.
